The idea
Local information is often scattered across social feeds, government pages, weather apps, funeral-home websites, school systems, and business directories. Finding one answer can mean opening several tabs; staying broadly informed is harder still.
MorningSun.Today gives Poteau a single front door. It gathers timely information into a calm, readable product with the structure of a dashboard and the identity of a local publication.
What I built
The platform combines local and regional news, detailed weather, obituaries, a business directory, school information, maps, live cameras, games, and sponsorship tools. Each section can stand on its own, but the homepage keeps the most useful parts visible together.
A true local dashboard
Current weather, local and regional news, obituaries, businesses, and sponsor information share one scannable homepage organized around Poteau.
Useful beyond headlines
School information, live cameras, maps, games, forecasts, and a searchable directory make the site a daily utility rather than a single-purpose publication.
Built for local businesses
Structured directory profiles and visible sponsor placements connect community information with a practical path to local support.
Responsive by priority
The mobile layout preserves the information people need first—weather and news—while moving the broader navigation behind a compact menu.
The product challenge
The challenge is density without clutter. Weather, breaking news, obituaries, and local services all compete for attention, but they do not carry the same urgency. The interface uses clear modules, restrained color, and predictable navigation so residents can scan the page quickly without losing the sense that everything belongs to one product.
Community and sustainability
A local platform has to serve readers while creating obvious value for the organizations that help sustain it. Business profiles and sponsorship placements are integrated as useful community information rather than detached advertising, keeping the relationship between discovery and support visible.
Where it stands
MorningSun.Today is live and serving Poteau with current news, forecasts, obituaries, directory listings, and community tools. This first case-study draft establishes the product story; the next refinement can add the project’s origin, technical architecture, content workflows, audience results, and the specific decisions behind each section.
